The World Nude Beaches Guide with Photos

Report by Nomad:

A short trip south of Munich will bring you to a popular wilderness reserve called Pupplinger Au. Once again the Isar River is the main attraction in this largely unspoiled area. The water level was very low when I was there so there were endless possibilities on the banks and islands of pebbles. There must have been a few hundred naturists spread out over a large area, some in groups here and there.

Although most people were to be found in the area described in the directions below, you can walk further north along trails for several kilometers and you will still find people in this wilderness by the river. Apparently nudity is accepted in this area and you can hike around naked if you want.

When you are done, walk back to the Gasthaus and have a soothing beer in the shaded beergarten... but not too much... you still have to drive home! Try the drink called the Radler. It is a combination of beer and 7-up. Very thirst quenching.

Directions: You can take the autobahn no. 95 south quickly and exit at Wolfrathausen. Have a map... you need to go through town and take the main road running east out of town. Avoid going through the narrow streets of the Altstat though. You can also get down to Wolfrathausen from Munich by taking a local highway. It is scenic in parts if you are not in a hurry but it may be busy and it could take you much longer to get to our destination. So you are driving east out of town. Very soon you cross the Isar river and then almost right away you will turn left to get to the parking area. here there is also a Gasthaus (Hotel and restauraurant) with a beergarten. In the summer this place will be busy - cyclers come and go constantly and also rafters come here who start on the river at this point and get picked up somewhere downstream. Walk (or take a bike) north along the same road you entered past the animal farm. Shortly you need to veer slightly to the left onto a narrower paved road and continue on this long straight road for a good stretch but less than a kilometer I think. You will reach the main trail entrance on your left. Chances are you will see where other people are going and coming from or you can ask for directions if any of this is not clear. Follow the trail for a few minutes and you will reach the vast river sediment area of the Isar river. History/Status: Officially allowed in that area.

Environment: German weather can get cool but sunny summer days should be fine. There are times, usually in the spring, when rains will cause the river to swell considerably and make the area unusable.

Parking: There is just the one lot described in the directions.

Facilities: There is no shade and no amenities in the river basin. Bring umbrella, water, food and please remove all your refuse. Stay on the trails as this is an area under conservation treatment. The only facilities are at the Gasthaus by the parking lot. Accommodation: City hotels are everywhere.
