| Directions:
You can take the autobahn no. 95 south quickly and exit at Wolfrathausen. Have a map... you need to go through town and take the main road running east out of town. Avoid going through the narrow streets of the Altstat though. You can also get down to Wolfrathausen from Munich by taking a local highway. It is scenic in parts if you are not in a hurry but it may be busy and it could take you much longer to get to our destination.
So you are driving east out of town. Very soon you cross the Isar river and then almost right away you will turn left to get to the parking area. here there is also a Gasthaus (Hotel and restauraurant) with a beergarten. In the summer this place will be busy - cyclers come and go constantly and also rafters come here who start on the river at this point and get picked up somewhere downstream.
Walk (or take a bike) north along the same road you entered past the animal farm. Shortly you need to veer slightly to the left onto a narrower paved road and continue on this long straight road for a good stretch but less than a kilometer I think. You will reach the main trail entrance on your left. Chances are you will see where other people are going and coming from or you can ask for directions if any of this is not clear. Follow the trail for a few minutes and you will reach the vast river sediment area of the Isar river.

Environment: German weather can get cool but sunny summer days should be fine. There are times, usually in the spring, when rains will cause the river to swell considerably and make the area unusable.
Parking: There is just the one lot described in the directions.
|
Facilities: There is no shade and no amenities in the river basin. Bring umbrella, water, food and please remove all your refuse. Stay on the trails as this is an area under conservation treatment. The only facilities are at the Gasthaus by the parking lot.
