Report by Richard S.
Since May 2001 US National Park Service rangers have
been hassling nude and topfree users of Salomon Beach
on St. John. In the summer of 2001 into the fall
rangers were giving out tickets without warnings-
$50.00. I lived on St. John continuously from Oct.
1999 to May 2001 and attended Salomon Beach 6 days a
week in that time. I left because of the intense
patrolling and harrassing of naturists. I cannot
recommend anyone travelling to the US Virgin Islands
for a naturist experience. I am fighting this through
several channels but nothing is positive at this time.
Update, May 2002: Some people in past two weeks have emailed me and said they had no problems at the beach. But I know that Salomon is still a VERY risky venture. I can't overemphasize this. Rangers generally do not give a warning when they show up... they just start writing the ticket. Paying the fine (pleading guilty) results in a federal misdemeaner charge on record. Be careful!
